'Having seen all the wonderful stone houses of Scotland
I just had to stay in one.
Fabulous stay!'

* Schiehallion - the Hill of the Fairies, one of Scotland's
most shapely and famous mountains permanently casts a watchful
eye over proceedings at the hotel and its conical shape once
allowed physicists to use its gravitational attraction on
a pendulum to calculate the mass of the earth.
* Queens View - this magnificent outlook is world
famous and can be enjoyed at the eastern end of Loch Tummel,
only a few miles from the hotel
* West Highland Line - arguably one of the most exhilarating
railway journeys in the world, passing as it does in quite
spectacular and dramatic fashion through glens, round mountains,
over moors and round lochside edges. And in the summer enhanced
by the Jacobite Steam Train, between Fort William and Mallaig,
following the famous 'Road to the Isles', combining the romance
of steam with simply beautiful scenery.
* Pitlochry - originally three small hamlets, now
combining to become one of Scotland's best loved perennial
tourism destination with an incredible array of choices from
distilleries, a theatre, castles, a range of Scottish highland
events, walks, cycle routes - incredible scenery - some of
the best in Scotland, to clan trails and history - and not
to mention a delightful 18 hole golf course.
* Scotland's 'Theatre in the Hills' - Pitlochry's
Festival Theatre is open from the end of July to the end of
October and features a full programme of events from drama
to comedy, concerts, films, literary and culinary events.
* The Fringe - just set up to extend the theatre style
entertainment season and open from May to October - and featuring
some of the best in orthodox and alternative entertainment
* Hydroelectric dam and fish ladder - your chance
to see a fully operational power station, part of a massive
network driving the north of Scotland. You will also learn
about the salmon, the king of fish, as part of an interactive
audio-visual presentation which will keep the whole family
entertained. It is also possible to view migrating fish in
the salmon ladder viewing chamber.
* Killiecrankie - in 1689 the first shots in the Jacobite
cause in Scotland were fired here, which led to the defeat
of the redcoat army at the Battle of Killiecrankie. Beautiful,
spectacular yet tranquil gorge with guided walks and a superb
historical visitor centre depicting the mood of the battle.
* Blair Castle - Scotland's most visited private home,
from 1269 the home of the Atholl family. Quite a magnificent
treat with over 30 fully furnished rooms of infinite variety
and treasures, and the finest of arts and historical connections.
A world class visitor centre. A must visit.
* House of Bruar (Scotland's Harrods) - the finest
country clothing collection to be found anywhere in mainland
Britain. Unique ranges of the highest quality with colours
and contrasts reflecting the richness of the Highlands. Clan
and historical centres. A cornucopia of gifts and fine foods.
Another must visit - but take your wallet! You can also order
on-line and have the goods delivered to your doorstep.
* Moulin Brewery, Pitlochry - A charming tiny craft
brewery producing 4 real ales, including Braveheart Ale, with
souvenir bottled beers available. Guided tours.
* Black Wood of Rannoch - the ancient pines of the
Wood are the last remnants of the Caledonian Forest.
* Clans of Rannoch Trail - an interesting clan trail
round Loch Rannoch, with roadside notices about the local
clans, telling the great deeds of courage and horror that
took place here. Set up by a local history group.
* The Journey along Loch Rannoch to Rannoch Moor -
the contrasts on this journey are stunning. The ultimate vista
of Rannoch Moor at the end of the route is a sight not to
be missed.
