history
The hotel has a long tradition of authentic 'highland hospitality'.
Built by soldiers returning from the Battle of Culloden as a coaching inn in the 1780's, it remained as such for over 100 years until its development into a hotel at the end of the 19th century under the watchful and guiding eye of Major General Alastair Macdonald, Commander of the Forces. Since then it has been host to royalty and gentry from all the world over.
Recently acquired by well known, innovative Scottish hospitality business development, ecommerce and internet marketing 'gurus' Paul Edwards and Robert Gilmour, it was previously owned by Paul's parents for 15 years and their combination of loving care and delicate attention to detail, together with careful restoration and subtle alteration has preserved all its grand character of the past, tastefully combined with modern comforts and standards.
This will strike you immediately you enter, as will the glow of a roaring log fire in the stately entrance hall, and a welcome as warm as the 80 or so malts you can enjoy here.
Wood panelling throughout most of the public areas and lounges, and grand staircase with imposing stained glass windows are just some outstanding features. Fascinating artefacts and memorabilia abound and are a great talking point. A veritable kaleidoscope of delights awaits you here!
